Terms of service

What you agree to by using WX Navigator, in plain language.

Last updated 31 July 2026

1. Not for navigation

WX Navigator produces planning output from public weather forecasts and public bathymetry. It is not a navigation system, not an ECDIS, and not certified under any maritime regulation.

Do not use it as the sole basis for a decision at sea. Forecasts are routinely wrong. The depth data here is generalised for route planning and does not resolve individual hazards; the shallowest global source, GEBCO, has a floor of 200 m, which is open ocean everywhere a boat could run aground. You remain responsible for keeping a proper lookout, for carrying and using official charts, and for complying with the collision regulations and the rules of any race you are sailing.

2. What you get

A licence to use the service for planning your own sailing. Routes you compute are yours to export, share and publish.

Availability is not guaranteed. NOAA and ECMWF have outages and take features down with them, and the free tiers exist at the operator's discretion. Paid plans are described on the pricing page; the refund policy covers what happens if one does not work out.

3. What you agree not to do

Do not automate requests beyond what a person planning routes would generate. Each preparation spends real fetches against NOAA and ECMWF, so a script hammering it degrades the service for everyone. Do not try to bypass plan limits or the metering that enforces them. Do not resell access or present the output as an official or certified product. Do not upload certificate data you have no right to use.

Accounts doing these things can be limited or closed. If that turns out to be a misunderstanding, say so and it will be reversed.

4. Your data

Boat polars are held in memory for the length of a session and never written to storage. Route requests and results are stored so that share links work, and are deleted when the retention period for your plan expires. The privacy policy has the detail.

5. Liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, WX Navigator is provided without warranty of any kind, and the operator is not liable for any loss, damage, injury or expense arising from its use. That includes loss arising from a forecast being wrong, a route being unsafe, data being unavailable, or a race being lost. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you have paid in the twelve months before the claim.

Third-party data carries its own disclaimers, reproduced on the attributions page.

6. Changes

These terms may change. Material changes will be dated here, and emailed to anyone on a paid plan before taking effect. Continuing to use the service after a change means accepting it.

7. Contact

Questions go to the developer.
